Television Personalities - "I Was a Mod Before You Was a Mod" (1995 Overground)

Although one of my favorite bands, this is an album that's taken me a long time and some effort to get into. This was their last album proper before Dan Treacy disappeared into addiction and the prison boat and resurfaced some ten years later with "My Dark Places". I don't really know what to say about it. Allmusic Guide calls it "harrowing". There's a few of the typical pop ditties - the title track, Little Woody Allen... But the rest of it I guess is pretty, um, harrowing.
I prefer Side 2 (track 7 on) with the punky romp of Since I Was a Girl and the gorgeous I Can See My Whole World Crashing Down.

All in all, a worthy addition to your TVPs collection. Get the 320 kbps vinyl rip HERE.

Tracks:
01. As John Belushi Said
02. I Was a Mod Before You Was a Mod
03. A Stranger To Myself
04. Little Woody Allen
05. A Long Time Gone
06. Evan Doesn't Ring Me Anymore
07. Things Have Changed Since I Was a Girl
08. Haunted
09. I Can See My Whole World Crashing Down
10. Something Just Flew Over My Head
11. Everything She Touches Turns To Gold

As a kind of companion to the album I recommend getting this EP, featuring a remix of the title track and a couple non-LP tracks.

Oh I love this one. Took me forever to find some years back, on import, before I mastered these internets. "As John Belushi Said" is one of my faves, a chilling yet hilarious depiction of a nervous breakdown that manages to take a swipe at Michael Stipe... Also "Haunted" is a gem of a love song... A delightful blog btw, many thanks for all the gems...
